First look wedding photography

First look wedding photography is a trend from the US that seems to be on the increase here in the UK. As a wedding photographer and videographer, I can see the appeal and understand why. What will first grab your attention about it are the amazing pictures of that moment. The excitement on the face of the couple as they see each other is usually phenomenal. Some people also have a first look with their parents and even their wedding party. One thing transcends all those variations, the emotions on display will have you longing to be there.

Now if you’re a traditional couple having a good old traditional wedding, a First Look might be out of the question for you. But for couples thinking to spice their UK wedding with a little bit of modernity, this is the trend for you. Here are some reasons why couples in the UK are loving this new trend of having a First Look at their wedding.

  • It’ll Help with Any Pre-wedding Nerves

Most people will spend their wedding morning with butterflies in their stomach the whole time. You wake up in the morning and become aware that this is it. This is the moment you’ve been dreaming of since you were a kid. You’re finally at that day you’ve spent months or even years planning for. If you’ve been feeling anxious before this day, it’ll intensify. For some people, the nerves will start that day. You’ll have to try to talk yourself through it or find a solution fast.

In comes First Look photography or videography to the rescue. Who better to soothe your nerves than the love of your life? Just a minute spent in their arms should solve the problem. With a first look or first touch, you’ll get several minutes. They’ll be able to understand exactly how you feel because they are going through the same too.

One look at your partner’s smile and you’ll remember why that day is so important. You’ll remember that they are the reason why you decided to do it all and that they’re worth it. You can hug, hold, and share a kiss. Most especially, they’ll say those reaffirming words that you need to help you take on the day and all it brings. No anxiety can last past that!

  • The Pictures Will Be Amazing

The pictures or film you get from your First Look will be exceptional. As your wedding photographer, I’ll be barely noticeable and give you the privacy you need to be yourselves. That and the joy at seeing each other for the first time that morning will provide some of the most beautiful pictures of yourself that you’ll ever see.

  • Get the Waterworks Out of The Way

Have you ever seen that video of the bride and groom crying uncontrollably at the altar? At first, it’s really beautiful, but after a while you want them to get it over with so the ceremony can start. Sadly, for some people, especially those who are really emotional, this can be hard.

If you fall in this category, you can avoid this scenario with a First look timed as part of your wedding photography. That way, you’d have gotten all the crying out of your systems before you meet at the altar. This is not completely guaranteed, however, because you might find that the wedding march is making you teary again. But I feel like the crying would be a little less. Besides, nobody said crying at your wedding is a crime, anyway!

So, what do you think? Is a “First Look” or “First Touch” as part of your wedding photography your thing? You should also make sure that your partner is also okay with having a first look.
